Week 7 - Merry Christmas!

I couldn't resist posting a cheesy Christmas Card worthy photo as this weeks blog.  My star filter has been in my camera bag ever since I got it a few years ago too cheap to resist and I finally used it.  I'm sure I have received a nice shiny Christmas Card with this picture on it before...

Week 6 - Smoke

This week I decided to finally try something I have been meaning to do for a long time, I hung up a black sheet, set up my flash to create side light and lit a stick of incense.  Before the incense had burned all the way down I had filled my 4GB CF card.  The next hours and days were spent going through all those pictures, deleting the blurry ones and playing with the clear ones.  It's amazing how intricate a trail of smoke can be.

I find the images even more compelling when inverted.

Week 5 - 10 Pictures in 10 Meters Part 4

This week I'll finish off the 10 Photos within 10 Meters series with 3 of the last 5 pictures that I took within 10 meters of my desk at work (with the exception of the pen that I took the picture at home but the pen was in my pocket at work so it's not really a cheat).  I did manage all 10 but don't want to wedge more than three in here and I don't want to stretch this project out another week.  So here they are:

Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 8.0, 0.4s

Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 8.0, 1/8
Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 8.0, 1/50

These pictures are, from left to right, a seal, detail of quarter sawn oak furniture and vault door detail.

Week 4 - 10 Pictures in 10 Meters Part 3

Although I continue to post seemingly for my own amusement it still pushes me to make sure I'm taking pictures every day.  I considered doing this as a daily blog rather than weekly but with a stressful full time job I just don't think I could pull that off right now.  When I'm no longer challenged by taking at least one picture per week that I'm happy enough with to post, I'll step it up, until then, I'll stick with Saturdays.

I have discovered that finding 10 great photos within 10 meters of wherever you happen to be is not that great a challenge.  Maybe I wouldn't think that if I had been standing in the middle of a wheat field in Saskatchewan at the time but even then I'm sure it wouldn't be hard, especially with a macro lens and a wide angle in the camera bag.

This weeks installment in the 10 meter challenge are three macro shots taken of items from my office:

Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 4.5, 1/125

Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 8, 1/150

Canon 20D, Sigma 150mm lens,
ISO 400, f 8, 1/160

Okay, perhaps I work in a office unlike most others where we continue to use the vault that was installed in 1909, keep the records from that time period on-site and just happen to have 50 year old office supplies kicking around but I'm sure I'm not the only person to have inherited an office from 5 generations of pack rats!
